Shakti Pumps (India) Limited, a leading manufacturer of solar pumps and motors, has been awarded a patent for its groundbreaking “Starting Direction Control Based Position Sensorless PMBLDC Motor Drive for Irrigation.” This innovative advancement, developed in collaboration with IIT Delhi, marks a significant leap in motor and electrical control systems, enhancing performance and reliability, particularly for agricultural irrigation applications.

The patent, issued by the Indian Government, will remain valid for 20 years, commencing from the filing date. This is the 15th patent secured by Shakti Pumps.

The newly patented technology offers a unique method for initiating permanent magnet brushless DC (PMBLDC) motors without the use of position sensors. This technique ensures high starting torque while reducing costs and complexity, making it ideal for long-cable systems. Additionally, it enhances rotor position accuracy and enables smoother operation, allowing pumps to start even in low solar irradiance, thus maximizing solar energy use. The versatility of this technique ensures compatibility across various irrigation systems.

Dinesh Patidar, chairman of Shakti Pumps, shared his excitement, stating, “This breakthrough highlights our commitment to advancing motor and control systems. By minimizing reliance on sensors, we provide more cost-effective and efficient irrigation solutions, ensuring optimal performance even under challenging conditions. This technology reflects our dedication to sustainable agriculture, providing farmers with the most reliable irrigation systems.”
