Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has recently informed exchanges that the company emerged as the Lowest Bidder (L1) for a project awarded by Southern Railway. The project involves the upgradation of the electric traction system from a 1×25 kV system to a 2×25 kV system. This enhancement is aimed at supporting a 3000 MT loading target in specific sections of the Salem division.

The scope of the work includes the upgradation of the electric traction infrastructure across the following sections:

  • Salem Junction (SA) to Podanur Junction (PTJ)

  • Irugur (IGU) to Coimbatore Junction (CBE) to Podanur Junction (PTJ)

This project falls under the domestic category and is to be executed over a time period of 24 months. The cost of the contract has been pegged at ₹143,37,87,127.90 (inclusive of applicable taxes).

The project will be executed under the general contract conditions of Southern Railway, as per the tender number CONV-OHE-2X25-KV-SR01. It is confirmed that neither the promoters nor the promoter group or group companies of RVNL have any interest in the awarding entity.

This development aligns with ongoing infrastructure enhancements undertaken by Indian Railways to boost freight capacity and improve operational efficiency.
