Reliance Power Limited, through its subsidiary Reliance NU Suntech Private Limited, has secured a landmark contract to develop a 930 MW solar energy project integrated with a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 1,860 MWh. The project was awarded by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) during an e-reverse auction held on December 9, 2024.
The ₹3.53 ($0.0416)/kWh tariff-winning bid establishes Reliance NU Suntech as the largest individual awardee in SECI’s Tranche XVII auction, which offered a total capacity of 2,000 MW solar energy with 1,000 MW/4,000 MWh storage systems. This initiative highlights India’s progress in combining renewable energy with cutting-edge storage technologies.
The project, which will operate on a build-own-operate basis, is expected to ensure a four-hour peak power supply daily and will connect to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) as per regulatory norms. A 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) will enable SECI to sell the energy to multiple discoms nationwide.
Key Highlights:
- Project Size: 930 MW solar power with 465 MW/1,860 MWh energy storage.
- Tariff: ₹3.53/kWh.
- Duration: 25-year PPA with SECI.
- Peak Power Supply: 4 hours daily.
