State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector lender, has announced the appointment of Shri Ravi Ranjan as its new Managing Director, effective December 15, 2025. The appointment has been made by the Central Government through a notification issued by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, under the provisions of the State Bank of India Act, 1955.
According to the official disclosure filed under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, Shri Ravi Ranjan will serve as Managing Director of SBI until he attains the age of superannuation on September 30, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He assumed charge of the office on December 15, 2025.
SBI confirmed that Shri Ravi Ranjan is not debarred from holding the office of director by virtue of any SEBI order or by any other statutory authority. The bank also clarified that there is no relationship between Shri Ravi Ranjan and any other director on the board, in line with SEBI’s master circular dated November 11, 2024.
As Managing Director, Shri Ravi Ranjan is entrusted with key responsibilities across the Risk, Compliance, and Stressed Assets Resolution Group (SARG) verticals of the bank. Prior to his elevation, he served as Deputy Managing Director handling Global Markets and earlier led the Corporate Accounts Group (CAG), where he played a crucial role in managing large corporate relationships and complex credit portfolios.
Shri Ravi Ranjan brings with him more than 34 years of extensive experience in banking and finance. A career banker, he joined SBI as a Probationary Officer in 1991 and has since held several leadership roles across critical business segments. As Chief General Manager, he headed the SBI Chennai Circle, overseeing operations across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. He has also served as President and Chief Operating Officer at SBI Capital Markets (SBICAPS) in Mumbai and earlier led the retail banking network in Bengaluru as General Manager.
