KPIT Technologies co-founder and Chairman Ravi Pandit has passed away, the company confirmed in an exchange filing on Friday, May 8, 2026. He was one of the key architects behind KPIT’s rise as a global automotive and mobility software engineering company.
The company said Ravi Pandit passed away on the morning of May 8, 2026, in Pune.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our Founder and Chairman of the Board, Mr. S. B. (Ravi) Pandit,” KPIT Technologies said in its filing.
Ravi Pandit co-founded KPIT, earlier known as KPIT Cummins, in 1990 along with Kishor Patil. Over the last three decades, he played a major role in transforming the company into one of India’s leading mobility and automotive software engineering firms.
An alumnus of the MIT Sloan School of Management in the United States, Ravi Pandit guided KPIT’s expansion across global markets. Under his leadership, the company established operations in 15 countries and developed engineering solutions powering millions of vehicles across the US, Europe and Asia.
Apart from his corporate leadership, Ravi Pandit was also known for his contribution to public policy, sustainability and social development initiatives. He co-founded institutions such as Pune International Centre and Janwani.
He also supported research and policy initiatives through the Centre for Sustainable Development at Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics and served as President of Jnana Prabodhini.
Ravi Pandit also served on the board of Thermax and contributed to environmental and rural development efforts through organizations such as World Resources Institute India and Aga Khan Rural Support Programme India.
