Radico Khaitan Limited, one of India’s oldest and most respected distillers, has unveiled its latest creation, Rampur 1943 Virasat Indian Single Malt. This new whisky draws its identity from the legacy of Rampur Distillery, founded in 1943, and blends heritage with modern craftsmanship in a way that reflects India’s evolving whisky culture.
Crafted at the foothills of the Himalayas, Rampur 1943 Virasat is made from carefully chosen six-row Indian barley, known for its rich malt character and bold flavour profile. The distillation takes place in newly designed pot stills that introduce intelligent refinements, helping the whisky maintain Rampur’s classic DNA while also developing a fresh, contemporary edge.
The maturation of this single malt adds another layer of artistry. The spirit begins its journey in American Bourbon Barrels and later moves to Ruby Port Pipes, creating deep complexity and refined sweetness. Rampur’s unique North Indian climate plays a crucial role in shaping its character. Summers can rise to 45°C, winters can dip to 2°C, and monsoons arrive with dramatic temperature swings. These intense seasonal shifts accelerate maturation, giving the whisky a depth and warmth that stands apart from traditional whisky-making regions.
Each cask used for Rampur 1943 Virasat holds the spirit through these powerful weather cycles, allowing time, temperature, and nature to sculpt its personality. The result is a whisky that honours decades of heritage while presenting a modern expression of Indian single malt craftsmanship.
Rampur 1943 Virasat is priced between ₹3,500 and ₹4,500 per bottle and will initially launch across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi. A broader nationwide rollout will follow. With this release, Radico Khaitan aims to showcase India’s distilling legacy on the global stage while ushering in a new era of innovation from the house of Rampur.
