Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art LPG Bottling Plant with Rail Unloading Facility at Hathua, District Gopalganj, Bihar. The project underlines the government’s commitment to energy security and sustainable development in the region.
The project, worth ₹340.15 crore, is targeted for completion by March 31, 2027. The plant will have a capacity of 180 Thousand Metric Tons Per Annum (TMTPA) and will feature modern infrastructure, including a dedicated railway siding, mounded storage vessels, and a 2×24 station electronic carousel for efficient bottling operations.

The facility will cater to the growing LPG demand in North-West and North-Central Bihar.

It is expected to create approximately 1.2 lakh man-days of employment during the construction phase.

The project will reduce carbon emissions by about 11,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ equivalent annually, similar to planting 5 lakh trees, thanks to vapour recovery processes.

It will enhance energy security by ensuring a stable and reliable LPG supply.
BPCL highlighted that this project aligns with India’s broader sustainability goals and the company’s vision of becoming a Net Zero Energy Company by 2040 for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
