Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder under Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding to set up a crucial Inter-State Transmission System. This project, titled “Inter-regional (NR-WR) Transmission System strengthening to relieve the loading of 765 kV Vindhyachal-Varanasi D/c line”, will be executed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis. POWERGRID received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on 16th September 2025.
The ambitious project involves establishing a new 765 kV sub-station at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. It also includes the construction of 765 kV double-circuit transmission lines traversing Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. This strategic initiative aims to enhance the power transmission capacity between Northern and Western regions, ensuring better load management and improved reliability of the national grid.
With this project, POWERGRID continues to strengthen India’s electricity transmission infrastructure, supporting the country’s growing energy demands and facilitating smoother inter-regional power flow. The BOOT model ensures efficient project execution while maintaining long-term operational excellence.
