Organic Recycling Systems Limited (ORSL), through its wholly owned subsidiary Solapur Bioenergy Systems Limited, has commenced generation and dispatch of Compressed Biogas (CBG) from the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) CBG plant in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The company announced the development on August 15, marking a key milestone in India’s renewable energy push.

The Gorakhpur facility converts agricultural residues such as paddy straw, cow dung, and other organic waste into high-purity biogas. ORSL said the project will play a significant role in reducing stubble burning, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, lowering reliance on fossil fuels, and creating employment opportunities in rural feedstock supply chains and logistics.

Managing Director Sarang Bhand described the operational launch as a “powerful testament” to ORSL’s expertise in sustainable waste-to-energy solutions. He highlighted that the project would contribute to reducing carbon emissions, strengthening the circular economy, and improving air quality while also generating rural employment in biomass collection and plant operations.

The initiative is aligned with the Government of India’s SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) program, which aims to promote the use of CBG as a cleaner fuel alternative. ORSL, established in 2008, is recognized for its work in waste valorisation and operates India’s first municipal solid waste processing plant based on patented anaerobic biomethanation technology.

With this launch, ORSL has added another large-scale project to its portfolio as it continues to pursue opportunities in bio-CNG, organic waste treatment, and renewable energy infrastructure nationwide.
