Oil India Limited (OIL) has formalised a significant step in its offshore exploration strategy by signing a Technology Service Agreement with TotalEnergies on 19 November 2025 in New Delhi. The agreement aims to deepen strategic collaboration across deep and ultra-deepwater exploration in India’s offshore sedimentary basins.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Pankaj Jain, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, along with Additional Secretary Praveen Mal Khanooja and OIL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Ranjit Rath. The agreement was executed by Dr. Sangkaran Ratnam, CMD of TotalEnergies Gas & Power Projects India, and Saloma Yomdo, Director (Exploration & Development), OIL.
The partnership establishes a framework for OIL to leverage TotalEnergies’ global expertise in the deepwater exploration value chain. This includes technical support for OIL’s ongoing appraisal of a gas discovery in shallow offshore blocks in the Andaman Basin, as well as exploration activities in OALP-IX ultra-deepwater blocks in the Mahanadi and Krishna-Godavari basins. It also covers joint evaluation of opportunities in the current OALP-X round and upcoming bid rounds, along with support for stratigraphic well drilling in offshore Category-II and Category-III basins.
The collaboration marks an important milestone in OIL’s efforts to expand its offshore portfolio and pursue new hydrocarbon opportunities in frontier regions. By combining OIL’s operational presence with TotalEnergies’ advanced technical capabilities, the agreement is expected to strengthen India’s pursuit of a more secure and sustainable energy future.
