NTPC Limited, India’s leading power generation company, has officially announced the permanent discontinuation of operations at NTPC Tanda Thermal Power Station, Stage-I.

Following the approval of the competent authority and subsequent communication to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) on September 4, 2025, the plant’s four units, each with a capacity of 110 MW, have been permanently shut down effective September 1, 2025.

This strategic move marks an important step in NTPC’s ongoing efforts to optimize its thermal power portfolio while focusing on cleaner and more efficient energy generation.

In the exchange filings, the company shared, “Consequent upon the due approval of the competent authority and communication dated 04.09.2025 to Central Electricity Authority (CEA), it is hereby informed that operations of NTPC Tanda Thermal Power Station, Stage-I comprising of four units of 110 MW each, have been permanently discontinued w.e.f. 01.09.2025.”

With the closure of Tanda Stage-I, the total installed and commercial capacity of the NTPC Group now stands at 82,926 MW, reinforcing its position as one of India’s largest power producers.
