NHPC Limited has announced a revision in the commencement timeline for its proposed investment in the 750 MW Kuppa Pumped Storage Project in Chhota Udaipur, Gujarat. According to an exchange filing dated April 1, 2025, the company stated that due to unforeseen circumstances beyond its control, the ongoing survey and investigation works at the project site have been halted.
As a result, NHPC now expects to begin investment in the project in the financial year 2025-26, instead of the previously planned FY 2024-25. The project was being developed in partnership with Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL), as per the Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier with the Government of Gujarat.
The company affirmed that efforts are being made to resume the halted operations at the earliest. The delay is procedural and NHPC continues to remain committed to the project and its execution timeline, subject to the resolution of the current impediments.
