The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed two significant contracts on December 30, 2024, totaling ₹2,867 crore. These agreements aim to strengthen the operational endurance and firepower of Indian submarines.

The first contract, worth ₹1,990 crore, was inked with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai, for constructing and integrating an Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) Plug using DRDO’s indigenous AIP technology. This advancement will boost the endurance of conventional submarines while supporting the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative by generating employment for nearly three lakh man-days.

The second contract, valued at ₹877 crore, was signed with Naval Group, France, for integrating the Electronic Heavy Weight Torpedo (EHWT), developed by DRDO, into the Kalvari-Class submarines. This collaboration between the Indian Navy, DRDO, and Naval Group will significantly enhance the submarines’ firepower capabilities.

These agreements mark a pivotal milestone in modernizing India’s naval fleet and reinforcing national defense readiness.
