Larsen & Toubro’s Renewables business has won a significant engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) order to develop Bihar’s largest solar-battery hybrid power project. The contract, valued at up to ₹2,500 crore, involves building a 116 MWac solar plant integrated with a 241 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Kajra, Lakhisarai district.
This marks an extension of an earlier project phase, bringing the total co-located storage capacity at the Lakhisarai site to 495 MWh—the largest such installation by any state utility in India.
The advanced 4-hour BESS will allow clean solar power to be stored and delivered during peak hours, improving grid reliability. The system will feature liquid cooling technology for better safety, power density, and lifespan.
This project aligns with India’s push for co-located renewable storage solutions and supports Bihar’s Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali mission. It is also expected to boost local employment and contribute to the region’s long-term energy security.
L&T recently secured a similar 275 MW solar EPC order in Gujarat, further expanding its clean energy footprint.
