L&T’s Water & Effluent Treatment (WET) Business, in collaboration with Lantania of Spain, has secured a significant contract with ACWA Power for the Ras Mohaisen Desalination Plant in Saudi Arabia. This project marks a key milestone in L&T’s growing presence in the Middle East.
The desalination plant, designed with a daily capacity of 300,000 cubic meters, will cater to the drinking water needs of approximately one million residents in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Baha regions. The project involves the complete design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of a state-of-the-art seawater reverse osmosis desalination facility. Additionally, it includes intake and outfall structures, advanced process units, pumping stations, a massive 600,000 cubic meter potable water storage facility, and specialized electrical and automation systems. To enhance sustainability, a solar PV plant is also integrated into the project.
This venture is a testament to WET’s expertise in executing large-scale infrastructure projects and further cements L&T’s position as a leading player in the water treatment sector. Notably, this is the second major desalination contract that L&T has secured in Saudi Arabia, reinforcing its strategic expansion in the region. As the lead partner in the joint venture, L&T is set to drive the project to completion with its technical proficiency and execution capabilities.
Classified as a “Large” project with an estimated value between ₹2,500 to ₹5,000 crore, this contract highlights L&T’s commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure solutions.
