Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited has recently informed exchanges that the company successfully commissioned its 4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) pellet plant at Konsari, Maharashtra, along with an 85-kilometre iron ore slurry pipeline from Hedri to Konsari. Both projects are part of the company’s efforts to strengthen its integrated operations and improve efficiency in its iron and steel value chain.

The Konsari pellet plant, which received environmental clearance in November 2023, began construction in December 2023. While it faced a slight delay beyond the originally planned 18-month schedule, the project is now operational and marks a significant step in LMEL’s forward integration strategy. It is also one of the largest single-configuration pellet plants in the country.

The plant is designed to convert iron ore fines into high-grade pellets suitable for steel production. It will work in sync with LMEL’s planned expansion in iron ore mining capacity and upcoming steelmaking operations, allowing for better control over input costs and improved margins over the medium term.

The newly constructed 85-kilometre slurry pipeline connects LMEL’s Gadchiroli iron ore mine to the Konsari pellet plant. With a capacity of 10 million metric tonnes, the pipeline enables a consistent and efficient mode of transporting ore. This infrastructure is expected to reduce internal freight costs and lower the carbon footprint associated with logistics, supporting more sustainable operations.

This is LMEL’s second major commissioning in the Gadchiroli region in the past two years. The company is focusing on building integrated, cost-efficient infrastructure to support its long-term growth plans in the steel sector.
