Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been selected as one of the preferred Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors for the northern site of the world’s first 24/7 solar PV and battery storage gigascale project. This milestone was announced during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

The ambitious project, being developed by Masdar in collaboration with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), will include a 5.2 GW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant paired with a 19 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS). It is designed to deliver 1 GW of baseload power around the clock. The north site, where L&T will contribute, will have a capacity of 2.6 GW of solar PV and 9.5 GWh of battery storage.

Abdulaziz Alobaidli, Chief Operating Officer at Masdar, highlighted the significance of this record-breaking initiative, stating that it represents a leap forward in overcoming the intermittency of renewables while setting a benchmark in clean energy innovation. L&T’s leadership emphasized its commitment to bringing advanced capabilities to this ultra-mega project.

This development reinforces L&T’s global leadership in dispatchable renewable generation and strengthens its longstanding partnership with Masdar.
