The Kerala government has extended its agreement with Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd by five years, revising the deadline for the commissioning of India’s first deepwater port to December. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced the signing of a supplementary concession agreement, ensuring the project’s continued development.

The Vizhinjam Port project, which has been underway for several years, is nearing significant milestones. The second and third phases are expected to be fully operational by 2028. As part of the expansion, an additional investment of ₹10,000 crore will enhance the port’s capacity, making it a key hub for international maritime trade.

Chief Minister Vijayan highlighted the government’s commitment to the project, stating, “We have entered a supplementary concession agreement with Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd to extend the project period for five years and commission the port by December.”

The Vizhinjam Port, located near Thiruvananthapuram, is poised to become a major player in India’s maritime infrastructure, handling large cargo volumes and facilitating global trade connectivity.
