Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL), a leading provider of comprehensive mobility solutions across rail, road, and marine transportation, has announced a significant acquisition of Log9’s Railway and Electric Battery technology and business. The acquisition, executed by Jupiter Electric Mobility (JEM), a subsidiary of JWL, marks a major step in JEM’s expansion within the electric mobility sector, specifically targeting the electric truck and railway battery segments.
The acquisition involves Log9’s engineering and production teams dedicated to railway and electric truck battery technology, which will now integrate into JEM’s operations. Additionally, JEM will acquire Log9’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Devanahalli, Bangalore, further reinforcing its position as a leading player in India’s electric mobility ecosystem.
This strategic acquisition enhances JEM’s capabilities in electric truck manufacturing by enabling backward integration into battery production—a crucial component for electric light commercial vehicles (e-LCVs). With this addition, JEM aims to strengthen its ability to design, engineer, and produce in-house battery solutions, positioning itself more competitively in the rapidly growing electric mobility market.
For JWL, this acquisition broadens its Railway Product Landscape, allowing it to support a range of applications in the Indian Railways segment. JEM and Log9 have already seen success in deploying battery products with Indian Railways, including an order for Vande Bharat train batteries in collaboration with Siemens.
Mr. Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of JWL, commented on the acquisition, saying, “This acquisition is more than a transaction; it’s an investment in JEM’s future. By integrating Log9’s technology and production capabilities into our portfolio, we’re able to expand our expertise in electric mobility and railways while reinforcing our dedication to sustainable and innovative energy solutions.”
With an enhanced technology stack and expanded manufacturing capabilities, JEM is well-positioned to drive further advancements in India’s electrification journey across both the automotive and railway sectors.
