JSW Energy Limited, through its subsidiary SW Energy (Utkal) Limited, has successfully synchronized Unit-2 (350 MW) of the Utkal Thermal Power Plant, located in Jharsuguda, Odisha. This significant achievement comes after JSW Energy acquired the plant in December 2022 under NCLT proceedings. The full 700 MW capacity (2×350 MW) of the plant has now been revived in just 24 months.

The Utkal Thermal Power Plant runs on domestic coal and is currently not tied up under a long-term power purchase agreement. The synchronization of Unit-2 comes at a critical time, as demand for power is rapidly growing. This expansion will contribute to meeting the country’s increasing base load demand and further enhance energy security.

With this development, JSW Energy’s total thermal capacity reaches 7,458 MW, while its operational thermal capacity increases to 3,858 MW. The company’s total locked-in generation capacity now stands at 28.2 GW, reinforcing its commitment to achieving 20 GW of installed capacity well before 2030.

JSW Energy remains focused on its sustainable growth objectives, aiming for a net-zero target by 2050. This milestone at Utkal Thermal Power Plant is a key step towards diversifying the company’s fuel mix, geographical spread, and off-take arrangements, positioning JSW Energy as a leader in the nation’s energy sector.
