John Cockerill India Limited (JCIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), the country’s largest state-owned steel producer. This collaboration, signed on 28 November 2024 in Mumbai, aims to drive innovative solutions and promote green steel production in India.

The focus of the MoU is on advancing sustainable iron and steelmaking practices. Key areas of collaboration include the establishment of a joint venture for Cold Rolling and Processing of Carbon Steel, including Green Steel and Silicon Steel (CRGO, CRNO). Additionally, both companies will explore the integration of green hydrogen in steel production, a critical step in decarbonizing the industry. John Cockerill’s cutting-edge processing technologies will also be integrated into SAIL’s upcoming projects.

This partnership highlights the collective effort needed to reduce carbon emissions in the steel sector. By combining expertise and technology, the collaboration aims to enhance the competitiveness of India’s steel industry while addressing pressing environmental challenges.
