Jindal Steel & Power has achieved a major milestone by successfully commissioning its 250 MT Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) Converter at the company’s Angul integrated steel plant in Odisha. The new addition has boosted the plant’s crude steelmaking capacity by 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), taking Angul’s total capacity from 6 MTPA to 9 MTPA.
With the first heat now tapped, this expansion brings Angul one step closer to its ambitious target of achieving 12 MTPA within the current financial year.
The commissioning of Blast Furnace 2 alongside the BOF Converter marks a synchronized leap in the plant’s integrated operations. This streamlined production flow into downstream mills will ensure a steady supply of high-quality Indian-made steel, catering to critical sectors such as infrastructure, energy, automotive, oil & gas, and real estate.
Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel, said: “The new BOF is now running, and the first heat has been tapped. With this, Angul gains real muscle in steelmaking. Every tonne we produce here strengthens India’s ability to rely on its own capacity.”
