Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), one of India’s leading natural gas distribution companies, has taken a significant step toward expanding its presence in the clean-energy ecosystem. The company announced that it has signed a Joint Venture Agreement with CEID Consultants & Engineering Private Limited to develop Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) and other biofuel projects across the country.

The agreement, signed on 25 November 2025, aims to accelerate India’s transition to sustainable fuel alternatives by setting up state-of-the-art CBG plants. These projects are expected to support the government’s vision of boosting green energy production, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and strengthening the circular economy by converting organic waste into usable clean fuel.

Under the new joint venture, IGL and CEID will hold an equal 50:50 equity stake, reflecting a balanced partnership with shared responsibilities and aligned long-term interests. The Board of Directors of the new entity will initially include four members, with two representatives nominated by each partner. This equal structure ensures collaborative decision-making as the venture rolls out multiple green-energy initiatives.

IGL has clarified that the transaction does not fall under related-party dealings and that neither entity has any promoter or group-company relationship with the other. The agreement focuses purely on strategic collaboration for developing and operating CBG and biofuel assets, without any special rights beyond the jointly governed board structure.

While the companies have not disclosed specific project locations or investment details yet, the partnership underscores IGL’s push to diversify beyond traditional city gas distribution. With demand for low-carbon fuels rising rapidly in industrial, automotive and commercial sectors, the CBG market is emerging as a major growth frontier. This joint venture positions IGL to tap into that opportunity with stronger technical and engineering support from CEID.
