Hindustan Zinc Limited, India’s largest and the world’s second-largest integrated zinc producer, has recently informed exchanges that the company achieved impressive energy savings of over 0.8 million Gigajoules (GJ) in FY24.
This significant reduction in energy usage could power more than 70,000 Indian households annually. The company also expanded its renewable energy commitment, increasing its Power Delivery Agreement (PDA) to 530 MW, including previously signed agreements, which will provide over 70% of its total power requirement by 2026.
In line with its sustainability goals, Hindustan Zinc continues to invest in innovative energy-efficient projects, such as turbine upgrades in its captive power plants, improved cellhouse efficiency, and switching from high-speed diesel to piped natural gas. These efforts have resulted in both energy savings and reduced carbon emissions.
Recognized as the world’s most sustainable company in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2023, Hindustan Zinc is committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050. The company focuses on decarbonizing operations by increasing renewable energy in its energy mix and transitioning to cleaner fuels and electric vehicles. It has already begun utilizing renewable power for the production of Asia’s first low-carbon ‘green’ zinc, EcoZen.
