Hinduja Renewables Energy Private Limited (HREPL), part of the Hinduja Group, has announced the appointment of Deepak Thakur as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2025.
With over three decades of leadership experience across the renewable energy, infrastructure, industrial products, and electronics sectors, Thakur has previously held senior positions at Mahindra Group, Reliance, Sterling & Wilson, L&T, Honeywell, and Thermax. His expertise spans the entire renewable energy value chain — from solar, wind, and hybrid systems to storage technologies, EPC, O&M, upstream manufacturing, and InvIT-led asset monetisation.
He succeeds Sumit Pandey, who has stepped down from the role.
Commenting on the appointment, Shom Hinduja, Chairman of HREPL, said, “As we continue to strengthen our position in the renewable energy space, Deepak’s vast experience and leadership will be instrumental in driving our next phase of growth. We are delighted to welcome him aboard and thank Sumit for his foundational contributions to Hinduja Renewables.”
Expressing his enthusiasm, Deepak Thakur said, “It’s an honour to join the Hinduja Group at such a pivotal time for India’s clean energy transition. The group’s strong commitment to sustainability resonates deeply with my own values, and I look forward to contributing to this journey of innovation and impact.”
A strong advocate of clean energy, Thakur played a key role in formulating India’s National Solar Thermal Policy (2009), which laid the groundwork for the nation’s renewable energy roadmap. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pune and an MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management.
