Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GNFC) is set to expand its production capacity with the installation of a Weak Nitric Acid-III plant of 600 MTPD (2,00,000 MTPA) capacity. The project, approved by the Board on August 13, 2024, marks a significant step in strengthening India’s domestic chemical manufacturing sector.
For this project, GNFC has signed an agreement with thyssenkrupp Udhe India Private Limited (TKUIPL) for the supply of the plant on an LEPC basis. TKUIPL, in collaboration with its parent company thyssenkrupp Uhde, will provide process know-how and licensing for the plant.
Currently, GNFC operates two nitric acid plants licensed by thyssenkrupp Uhde. With the addition of the third plant, the company’s production capacity will increase by approximately 57%, meeting the growing demand for nitric acid in India. This expansion aligns with the Make in India initiative, reducing dependency on imports and strengthening the domestic chemical industry.
