Greaves Cotton Limited has taken a big step forward in the global mobility space through its partnership with Ligier Group, one of Europe’s best-known manufacturers of light and heavy quadricycles. With a legacy of more than 165 years, Greaves Cotton is now strengthening India’s position as a credible global supplier of advanced and environmentally responsible automotive technologies.
Under this collaboration, Greaves has developed the 499cc REVO D+ diesel engine, a Euro V+ certified powertrain that now drives Ligier’s latest microcar models, the Ligier JS50 and the Ligier Myli. Built at the company’s modern facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, these engines are already being integrated into vehicles sold across France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Latvia, Greece, Lithuania, Estonia, and the Czech Republic—marking a proud moment for Indian engineering on the world stage.
This 499cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke diesel engine has been designed specifically for L6e category light quadricycles commonly used across European towns and cities. With electronic fuel injection and a compact build, the engine produces 6.0 kW of power at 3000 rpm and offers 26 Nm of torque between 1800 and 2200 rpm. Its strong fuel efficiency, low noise and vibration levels, and reliable performance have made it popular among European customers who seek a blend of comfort and practicality in compact mobility.
Meeting the stringent Euro V+ emission standards required a rigorous development process. Greaves Cotton followed demanding European-grade validation protocols, including endurance cycles, cold-weather testing, reliability assessments, and emissions checks aligned with global regulatory benchmarks. This not only illustrates the company’s engineering strength but also reinforces its ability to meet the quality and environmental expectations of mature international markets.
Europe’s varied climates—from icy Nordic winters to the warm Mediterranean—make it one of the toughest regions for automotive performance. The smooth acceptance of the REVO D+ engine across such diverse geographies showcases Greaves’ capability to craft solutions that stay dependable in challenging conditions. Younger drivers appreciate the responsive acceleration, while older users value refined NVH performance, making the powertrain well-suited for the full range of microcar users.
