GMR Airports Limited has received the final go-ahead for the Nagpur Airport Concession rights following the Supreme Court of India’s decision on September 27, 2024. The Supreme Court declined to interfere with its earlier judgement from May 9, 2022, confirming that GMR Airports’ bid for the Nagpur Airport stands valid. This ruling ends a long legal battle that began in March 2020 when MIHAN India Limited had annulled the bidding process for the airport.

The Supreme Court’s decision rejected the curative petitions filed by the Union of India and the Airport Authority of India, marking the conclusion of the legal hurdles. GMR, which was awarded the Letter of Award in March 2019 after emerging as the highest bidder, is now set to finalize the Concession Agreement for Nagpur Airport.

With this judgement, the authorities are expected to proceed swiftly to execute the Concession Agreement with GMR Airports Limited or its Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the airport.

This decision affirms the original judgement of the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, which had earlier quashed the cancellation of GMR’s bid.
