Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) has signed a contract for the construction and delivery of the 5th Multi-purpose Vessel (MPV) of 7,500 DWT with Germany-based M/s Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co. KG. This agreement, signed on October 3, 2024, is part of an ‘Option Agreement’ for the procurement of four additional MPVs from GRSE, with a total of eight vessels to be delivered at an order value of $108 million USD.
Each vessel will be 120 meters long and 17 meters wide, designed to carry 7,500 metric tonnes of cargo, including bulk, general, and project cargoes, as well as containers. The ships are specifically designed to carry large windmill blades on deck.
The contract was signed by Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd), Director (Shipbuilding) of GRSE, and Mr. Jonas Meinhardt, Managing Director of Carsten Rehder, in the presence of senior officials from both companies. This contract underscores GRSE’s commitment to handling export orders and expands the company’s role in international shipbuilding.
