In a pioneering move towards sustainable agriculture and farmer welfare, dairy farmers in Rajasthan and Assam received India’s first-ever carbon credit payments for household-level biogas plants. This initiative, facilitated by EKI Energy Services Ltd (EKI) in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Sustain Plus Energy Foundation (SPEF), was celebrated during NDDB’s Diamond Jubilee event in Anand, Gujarat. The payments were distributed by Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, in the presence of several key dignitaries.
Key Highlights:
- Carbon Credit Payments for Dairy Farmers: Dairy farmers from Rajasthan and Assam benefited from NDDB’s manure management program, receiving financial rewards from carbon credits generated by household biogas plants.
- Significant Dignitaries in Attendance: The event saw participation from prominent figures, including Union Ministers Shri Amit Shah, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, and Prof. SP Singh Baghel, marking a landmark moment in India’s agricultural landscape.
- EKI’s Role in Project Success: EKI Energy Services provided comprehensive support for the project, including registration, verification, and trading of carbon credits, enabling the successful financial outcome for the farmers.
This initiative, part of NDDB and SPEF’s manure management program, aligns with India’s net-zero goals and exemplifies how sustainable practices in agriculture can create additional revenue streams for farmers. With over 1,000 dairy farmers across 7 states now benefiting, EKI and NDDB are committed to expanding this model to future projects, furthering India’s transition to a sustainable, low-carbon economy.
