Coal India Ltd (CIL) reported a decline in both coal production and offtake for October 2025, according to provisional data shared with stock exchanges. The state-run miner produced 56.4 million tonnes (MT) of coal during the month, down 9.8% from 62.5 MT in October last year.

Offtake — coal supplied to consumers — also saw a dip, falling to 58.3 MT, down 5.9% from 62 MT recorded in the same month last year.

For the April–October 2025 period, cumulative coal production stood at 385.5 MT, a decline of 4.5% compared to 403.8 MT in the corresponding period last year. Cumulative offtake for the same period dropped 2.4%, to 415.3 MT from 425.6 MT a year ago.

The performance varied across subsidiaries:

  • ECL, NCL, SECL showed positive trends in some metrics
  • BCCL, CCL, WCL, MCL reported declines in both production and offtake
  • NEC remained flat at minimal levels
