Coal India has appointed senior IAS officer Sanoj Kumar Jha as its new Chairman-cum-Managing Director (additional charge) with effect from November 1, 2025. The appointment comes following the superannuation of P.M. Prasad, who relinquished charge on the same day.
According to a regulatory filing, the Ministry of Coal issued an order entrusting Jha with the additional responsibility for three months or until a full-time CMD is appointed, whichever is earlier. Jha currently serves as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Coal and has taken charge on Friday.
Jha holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Delhi, a Master’s degree in Public Policy & Management from King’s College London, and has also completed an Advanced Management Programme in Public Policy from ISB.
The company confirmed that he is not related to any other director and is not barred by any regulatory authority from holding the position.
P.M. Prasad retired upon attaining the age of superannuation and stepped down from the role effective November 1.
