Cairn Oil & Gas, a part of the Vedanta Group and India’s leading private oil and gas exploration and production company, has made a significant commitment to sustainability by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Oil & Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0. This partnership marks Cairn as the first oil and gas producer in India to commit to effective methane emissions reduction, reinforcing its dedication to decarbonising operations.
OGMP 2.0 built a comprehensive framework that includes best practices for emissions control and a robust reporting system. It focuses on accurate measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) of methane emissions in order to successfully drive reductions.
Cairn will establish a 5-year methane reduction target and report progress to OGMP, according to the terms of this MoU. This would allow Cairn to examine its emission profiles and use the data to reduce emissions cost-effectively.
