Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has shared an update on the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) link project designed to transmit renewable energy from Bhadla III in Rajasthan and Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh. The project includes the design and implementation of the HVDC link along with associated AC substations.
Earlier this year, BHEL and Hitachi Energy India Limited (INHE), working together as a consortium, had received the Letter of Intent from Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Limited on 9 February 2025. The companies later confirmed on 3 April 2025 that they had executed the supply and services contracts for the same project.
During the execution phase, RPPTL proposed shifting its responsibilities under the contract to another entity within the Adani Energy Solutions group. This led to a novation process in which AESL Projects Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Limited, would take over RPPTL’s role.
BHEL has now confirmed that the consortium, RPPTL and AESL Projects Limited have signed a Novation Agreement dated 14 November 2025. With this agreement in place, AESL Projects Limited has formally assumed all rights and obligations connected to the project that were originally held by RPPTL.
The company clarified that the change in contracting entity does not affect any earlier commitments. The project’s scope, timelines and commercial terms previously disclosed remain exactly the same for BHEL and INHE. All past, present and future responsibilities tied to the project now legally shift from RPPTL to AESL Projects Limited, ensuring continuity for the ongoing HVDC development.
