Bharti Airtel Limited has announced its plan to increase its shareholding in Airtel Africa plc, a subsidiary listed in the UK, by up to 5% in one or more tranches during the financial year 2024-25. The acquisition will be executed through Airtel Africa Mauritius Limited (AAML), a step-down subsidiary company of Bharti Airtel.
In an official exchange filing, Airtel stated that the acquisition would be conducted in accordance with applicable laws and permitted modes of transaction. Currently, AAML holds a 57.29% stake in Airtel Africa plc. This move is aimed at strengthening Airtel’s control and presence in its African operations.
The acquisition will be made for cash consideration, with pricing determined as per regulatory norms. Airtel has confirmed that all necessary regulatory and statutory approvals will be secured as required. The process is expected to be completed by March 31, 2025.
