Bharti Airtel, one of India’s top telecom providers, has successfully landed the 2Africa Pearls subsea cable in India. This move strengthens India’s global digital connectivity by linking the country to Africa and Europe via the Middle East.
Airtel, the official landing partner for 2Africa Pearls in India, has collaborated with key investors—center3 and Meta—to bring this high-capacity cable system to the region. The 2Africa Pearls cable adds over 100Tbps (terabits per second) of international capacity, reinforcing Airtel’s global network and supporting India’s digital ambitions.
Sharat Sinha, Director & CEO – Airtel Business, stated, “We are thrilled to bring the 2Africa Pearls cable to India, enhancing our network resilience. We recently landed the SEA-ME-WE-6 cable in Chennai and Mumbai and will continue investing in global cable systems to ensure high uptime and superior connectivity for our customers.”
2Africa Pearls is part of the 2Africa cable system, which spans over 45,000 kilometers, making it the world’s longest subsea cable system upon completion. The project is backed by major global players, including Vodafone, China Mobile International, Orange, Telecom Egypt, and WIOCC.
Airtel’s global network covers 400,000 route kilometers across 50 countries and five continents. The company has invested in 34 subsea cables, including 2Africa, SJC2, Equiano, i2i Cable, EIG, IMEWE, and SEA-ME-WE-4. These investments strengthen India’s connectivity with APAC, Europe, the Middle East, and the US.
