Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private Limited (SGHIPL), a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, have signed a joint venture (JV) agreement to develop green hydrogen and renewable energy projects across India.
The JV will focus on renewable energy, green hydrogen, and green ammonia production, with potential projects in emissions reduction for port operations and emerging green fuel technologies. This partnership aligns with India’s broader goals for energy transition and sustainable development.
BPCL, a Maharatna company and part of the Fortune Global 500, brings its expertise in the petroleum sector and infrastructure to the collaboration. Sembcorp contributes with its experience in renewable energy, including 6 GW of renewables assets in India, positioning the JV to explore low-cost, large-scale green hydrogen production.
BPCL aims to expand its renewable energy capacity to 10 GW and achieve net-zero emissions in Scope 1 and 2 by 2040. The joint venture with Sembcorp is part of BPCL’s strategy to support India’s climate goals and build a clean energy portfolio.
Sembcorp is actively pursuing green hydrogen and green ammonia as part of its decarbonization efforts, and the partnership with BPCL is expected to accelerate the development of these technologies in India.
