Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking, has secured a significant ₹2,463 crore contract from the Ministry of Defence for the supply and services of Ashwini Radars to the Indian Air Force. This contract, excluding taxes, marks a major milestone in India’s pursuit of self-reliance in defense technology.
Developed jointly by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and BEL, the Ashwini Radars are state-of-the-art Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radars. These advanced systems come with integrated Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) capabilities and offer electronic scanning in both azimuth and elevation. Equipped with 4D surveillance capabilities, they can automatically detect and track aerial targets, from high-speed fighter jets to slow-moving aircraft.
Designed for deployment across diverse terrains, these mobile radars feature robust Electronic Counter-Countermeasures (ECCM) to counter modern electronic warfare threats. Their cutting-edge technology enhances India’s air defense capabilities, reinforcing national security with indigenous solutions.
With this latest contract, BEL’s total order book for the current financial year has reached an impressive ₹17,030 crore.
