
In a significant boost to India’s air defence capabilities, Thales and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) have agreed on the initial supply of Laser Beam Riding MANPAD (LBRM) Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORAD) systems to the Indian Ministry of Defence. This collaboration stems from the 2021 Partnership Agreement, backed by the Indian and UK Governments, to bolster India’s security framework.
The LBRM, locally manufactured up to 60%, is designed to counter various aerial threats, including fighter aircraft, drones, and attack helicopters. The first batch of STARStreak High-Velocity Missiles and launchers will be delivered this year, representing India’s initial acquisition of this latest VSHORAD capability.

- Make in India: The agreement aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, focusing on domestic production and technology transfer from Thales.
