Bandhan Bank announced on Monday, July 14, that Biju E Punnachalil has officially joined as the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of the bank for a period of three years, effective immediately. This marks the end of Sundeep Bhan’s interim tenure as CRO.

According to the regulatory filing, Biju brings with him over three decades of experience in banking, with a strong focus on risk management, treasury, retail, and branch operations. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Chief Risk Officer at South Indian Bank, where he spent more than 29 years, including over eight years in the CRO role. At South Indian Bank, he was instrumental in building and implementing an enterprise-wide risk management framework across credit, market, and operational risk.

Biju began his banking career at Federal Bank in 1993 before moving to South Indian Bank in 1996. His expertise spans asset-liability management, regulatory compliance, and governance. He holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala.
