Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML) has welcomed the Uttar Pradesh Government’s approval of India’s first comprehensive bioplastic policy, designed to address plastic pollution and support eco-friendly alternatives. As part of its commitment to sustainability, BCML plans to establish the country’s first industrial Polylactic Acid (PLA) bioplastic manufacturing plant with a capacity of 75,000 tonnes per annum, adjacent to its Kumbhi Sugar Mill in Uttar Pradesh.
The newly approved policy provides significant incentives, including subsidies for capital investments, SGST reimbursement, and interest subventions. It also aims to foster innovation in bioplastic production, benefiting not only manufacturers but also waste management service providers and municipalities.
BCML’s Chairman, Vivek Saraogi, hailed the policy as a visionary move toward reducing India’s carbon footprint, particularly with sugarcane, a key raw material for bioplastics, playing a crucial role in the circular economy. The company expects the policy to inspire further investments in the sector and accelerate India’s low-carbon transition.
