Azad Engineering Limited, a Hyderabad-based company, has announced that it has secured a prestigious purchase order from Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) for the supply of advanced, high-complex rotating airfoils for supercritical turbines. This development, disclosed in an exchange filing on January 27, 2025, is part of a collaborative indigenization project evaluated and approved by the Central Electricity Authority (Ministry of Power), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), and BHEL.
The high-precision and technically complex airfoils were previously imported, but Azad Engineering has met the stringent requirements to position itself as an import substitute, marking a significant milestone in domestic manufacturing capabilities. The project underlines the company’s commitment to supporting India’s initiatives in achieving self-reliance in critical technology.
The order is scheduled to be executed by January 24, 2026. Azad Engineering has no promoter or group company interest in BHEL, as noted in its regulatory disclosure. This contract aligns with the company’s long-term vision of fostering domestic production and reducing dependency on imports for technologically advanced components.
