Ather Energy, India’s leading electric two-wheeler manufacturer, has announced three major initiatives aimed at making the transition to electric scooters easier and more accessible for Indian riders. The company has introduced Battery as a Service (BaaS), expanded its Assured Buyback programme, and launched an Extended Comprehensive Warranty (ECW), all designed to address the biggest concerns of potential EV buyers: upfront costs, resale value, and warranty coverage.

One of the main barriers to switching to electric vehicles has been the higher upfront cost. To tackle this, Ather Energy now offers Battery as a Service, allowing buyers to pay only for the scooter itself while the battery cost is spread over a monthly usage-based plan. With this model, the Ather Rizta can now be purchased starting at Rs 75,999, while the 450 Series begins at Rs 84,341 in Lucknow, making electric scooters far more accessible. Customers are charged based on their kilometre usage, with the cost of the battery recoverable over three to four years according to individual preference. This setup not only reduces the initial investment but also includes free fast charging for a year at Ather’s network of over 3,300 fast chargers nationwide, easing both range anxiety and charging costs.

Resale value is another concern for potential EV buyers, and Ather has addressed this with its Assured Buyback programme. Initially launched as a pilot, the programme is now available to a larger customer base. It guarantees up to 60 percent of the scooter’s value after three years and up to 50 percent after four years, depending on mileage. This gives buyers a clear understanding of the future worth of their scooter and removes the uncertainty around resale in a rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.

To provide complete peace of mind, Ather has also introduced the Extended Comprehensive Warranty for all AtherStack™ Pro customers. This warranty protects the battery and eleven other critical components, including the motor, motor controller, dashboard, and charger, for up to five years or 60,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. While electric scooters already have lower running costs than petrol vehicles, this extended warranty ensures that customers are protected against potentially expensive component replacements throughout their ownership journey.
