Ashok Leyland has announced that it has increased its shareholding in its UK-based subsidiary Optare PLC from 92.59% to 93% following a fresh investment of GBP 45 million, equivalent to Rs 500 crore. This was disclosed in a regulatory filing on April 2, 2025.
Optare PLC’s board, at its meeting held on April 1, 2025, allotted 649.63 crore ordinary shares of £0.001 each at an issue price of £0.006927 per share (including a premium of £0.005927) to Ashok Leyland. This move slightly raised Ashok Leyland’s equity stake in the company by 0.41%.
This investment marks a continued commitment from the Indian commercial vehicle major to strengthen its overseas operations and aligns with its long-term strategic focus on electric mobility and sustainable transport solutions.
The transaction was completed at 9:40 PM IST on April 1, 2025.
