Adani Power Ltd., India’s largest private sector thermal power producer, has signed a 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) for the supply of 2,400 MW of electricity. The power will be generated from a greenfield ultra-supercritical thermal power plant to be developed at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur district.

The project, awarded through competitive bidding, was secured by Adani Power at the lowest quoted supply rate of ₹6.075 per kWh. The company will invest nearly $3 billion to set up the 3×800 MW plant and its associated infrastructure under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model.

The coal linkage for the project has been allocated under the Government of India’s SHAKTI Policy. Construction is expected to generate around 10,000–12,000 direct and indirect jobs, while nearly 3,000 jobs will be created once the plant becomes operational.

Adani Power aims to fully commission the project within 60 months, significantly strengthening Bihar’s power supply and addressing the state’s growing demand for reliable electricity.
