Adani Power Ltd., India’s largest private-sector thermal power producer, has announced a major win in Bihar. The company has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) to supply 2,274 MW of electricity to North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (SBPDCL).

The power will be sourced from a new 2,400 MW greenfield thermal power project to be developed in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur district. This marks a significant step toward strengthening Bihar’s power infrastructure.

Adani Power emerged as the lowest bidder in a highly competitive tender process, quoting a final supply price of ₹6.075 per KWh. The upcoming thermal plant will feature an advanced 3×800 MW Ultra-supercritical design and will be executed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. The first unit is expected to be commissioned within 48 months of the appointed date, with the final unit to follow within 60 months.

“We are pleased to have won the bid to develop and operate a 2,400 MW thermal power project in Bihar,” said S.B. Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power. “We will invest approximately $3 billion in setting up a modern, low-emission Ultra-supercritical plant that will supply reliable, competitively priced, and high-quality power to the state. This is expected to further boost industrial growth in Bihar.”

The plant will be fueled through coal linkage allocated under the Government of India’s SHAKTI Policy. Adani Power expects the project to generate employment for around 10,000 to 12,000 people during construction, and provide 3,000 direct and indirect jobs once operational.

The company is expected to receive the Letter of Award (LoA) soon, following which a Power Supply Agreement (PSA) will be signed with Bihar’s state power utilities.
