Adani Enterprises Ltd. (AEL), the flagship incubator of the Adani Group, has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML) to develop a 12.9 km ropeway between Sonprayag and Kedarnath.

The project, part of the government’s National Ropeways Development Programme – Parvatmala Pariyojana, will slash the arduous 8–9 hour trek to just 36 minutes. The ropeway will have the capacity to carry 1,800 passengers per hour per direction, directly benefiting the nearly 20 lakh pilgrims who visit Kedarnath every year.

Adani will invest ₹4,081 crore in the project, which will be executed by its Roads, Metro, Rail, and Water (RMRW) division. Construction is expected to take six years, after which AEL will operate the ropeway for 29 years under a PPP model with revenue sharing with NHLML.

Chairman Gautam Adani called the project “a bridge between devotion and modern infrastructure,” stressing its dual role in making pilgrimages safer while creating new job and tourism opportunities in Uttarakhand.

The Kedarnath ropeway marks AEL’s first major ropeway project, adding to its expanding infrastructure portfolio alongside roads, airports, data centres, and green hydrogen initiatives.
