The Union Cabinet has given the green light to three major metro rail projects in Karnataka and Maharashtra, with a combined estimated cost of over Rs 30,000 crore. This move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance urban infrastructure and improve public transportation.

Bangalore Metro Rail Project – Phase 3

  • Total Cost: Rs 15,611 crore
  • Corridor 1: JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura with 21 stations
  • Corridor 2: Hosahalli to Kadabagere with 9 stations
  • Completion: Expected by 2029

This project aims to improve connectivity across key areas in Bangalore, enhancing the commuter experience and boosting the city’s overall quality of life.

Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project

  • Total Cost: Rs 12,200 crore
  • Key Areas Covered: Naupada, Wagle Estate, Dongripada, Hiranandani Estate, Kolshet, Saket, and more

This project will link important areas within Thane, making daily commutes easier and more convenient for residents.

Pune Metro Phase-1 Extension

  • Extension Route: From Swargate to Katraj
  • Length: 5.46 km
  • Total Cost: Rs 2,954.53 crore
  • Completion: Expected by 2029

The extension is designed to improve connectivity in Pune, which is recognized as a vital economic hub in India.

New Civil Enclaves in West Bengal and Bihar

In addition to the metro projects, the Cabinet has also approved the construction of new civil enclaves at Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal and Bihta in Bihar’s Patna.

  • Bagdogra Airport: Rs 1,549 crore; includes construction of an apron with 10 parking bays for A-321 type aircraft.
  • Bihta Airport: Rs 1,413 crore; includes construction of an apron with 10 parking bays for A-321/B-737-800/A-320 type aircraft.

These new developments are expected to boost air connectivity, which will further enhance tourism and commercial growth in these regions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that these infrastructure projects reflect the government’s commitment to improving urban living and ensuring seamless travel across the country.
