Ashok Leyland on Thursday inaugurated its new integrated greenfield commercial vehicle manufacturing facility in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant step in the company’s focus on green mobility. The plant was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises H.D. Kumaraswamy.
Located at Sarojini Nagar Industrial Area near Lucknow Airport, the facility spans over 70 acres and is Ashok Leyland’s most advanced and sustainable manufacturing plant globally. The facility has been designed primarily for the production of electric vehicles, with an annual capacity of up to 5,000 vehicles.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers and senior ministers from the Uttar Pradesh government, diplomats from various countries, industrialists, Ashok Leyland’s global dealers, suppliers, and senior leadership from the Hinduja Group and Ashok Leyland. Most of the plant’s workforce has been recruited from Uttar Pradesh, with a significant representation of women employees.

Designed as a green facility, the plant incorporates rooftop solar panels, energy-efficient LED lighting, battery-operated in-plant logistics, a zero-discharge system, and positive water balance initiatives.
