Ukraine repels massive Russian drone attack: All 89 drones shot down

Authorities reported that over 40 drones were specifically aimed at Kyiv and the surrounding areas.

Ukraine’s air force has successfully repelled one of the largest long-range drone attacks launched by Russia since the onset of the war. All 89 drones, aimed primarily at Kyiv and its surrounding region, were intercepted and destroyed, averting significant damage and potential casualties.

The assault, which occurred overnight, saw a barrage of drones targeting the capital and its environs. Authorities reported that over 40 drones were specifically aimed at Kyiv and the surrounding areas. Despite the intensity of the attack, no civilian or critical infrastructure suffered direct hits, a testament to the efficacy of Ukraine’s air defence systems.

An air raid alert was in place for most of the night, keeping residents on high alert. The alert was lifted only after the threat was neutralized, providing a sense of relief to the citizens who had braced for the worst.

“All 89 drones launched by Russia were successfully intercepted. This marks a significant victory for our air defense forces and underscores our ability to protect our skies,” stated a spokesperson for Ukraine’s air force.

While the interception prevented any direct hits on critical infrastructure, debris from the destroyed drones caused damage to private properties. Authorities confirmed that the roofs, windows, and facades of 13 private residences in the region suffered damage. No casualties were reported, but the impact on property has highlighted the continued risk posed by such attacks.

This latest drone attack reflects an escalation in tactics by Russian forces, seeking to disrupt and demoralize Ukrainian cities. However, the resilience and preparedness demonstrated by Ukraine’s air force have mitigated the potential devastation.

International observers have noted the increasing sophistication of Ukraine’s air defence capabilities, which have played a crucial role in repelling aerial assaults. The successful interception of such a large-scale attack serves as a significant morale booster for the Ukrainian populace and military.
